MLB Power Rankings: All 30 Teams, One Week Until the 2026 Trade Deadline

With the August 3 trade deadline looming, the game is full of tight races. Entering Monday’s action, 23 of the 30 teams were within five games of a playoff berth and could spark a busy deadline or see the teams with needs on the periphery out-bidding those at the top. Here’s where each club stands one week into the final month of the regular season.

Tier 1: The Cream of the Crop

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (67-39) – Contenders with the best record in the game and healthy. Blake Snell is working out a rehab assignment and Tyler Glasnow has started facing live hitters with reinforcements to come soon if they continue to wait. A deep farm system makes LA one of the best teams to buy from no matter their needs this season.
2. Milwaukee Brewers (66-39) – Right behind the Dodgers in the standings with the best ERA (3.43) and run differential (+142) in the National League, the Brewers also have two rookies entrenched in the starting lineup and rotation in Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara after going 6-2 in their first test of the season.

Tier 2: The Upper Crust

3. Atlanta Braves (62-43) – Coming off their longest losing streak of the year, a 13-9 July has helped Atlanta climb back up the rankings. The Braves enter the weekend winners of three straight series and have a frontline starter to add to their rotation that features Chris Sale as the only need left at the moment.
4. Tampa Bay Rays (62-43) – After winning three of four games to end their five-game skid, the Rays have dropped back out of first place in the AL East. As usual, what the Rays want to do at the deadline is tough to decipher but they should add at least one impact bat to their lineup with two available.
5. New York Yankees (59-46) – Coming off a strong month’s play, the Bombers have returned to the ranks of the AL’s elite after a bad stretch in June and early July. The injury situation in New York doesn’t help matters with Cody Bellinger out with a hamstring strain so they need to look elsewhere for help at the plate to go along withAaron Judge’s return.
6. Boston Red Sox (54-50) – The Red Sox’ incredible 15-game winning streak is over but they have still won the last six series in a row. They have also made one trade at the deadline already in the form of sending Connelly Early to Washington for Curtis Mead .
7. Chicago Cubs (59-46) – In the thick of the NL playoff race with a good cushion in the wild-card game, the Cubs are buyers looking to add to their pitching staff. A waiver pickup has turned into a possible rotation regular over his last two outings .

Tier 3: Buyers with Needs

8. Philadelphia Phillies (57-49) – Hosts of this summer’s All-Star Game, the Phillies are buyers at the deadline looking to add a corner outfielder and back-end starter. They have had a bad start to the second half of the season in which they have lost the last three series they’ve played .
9. Chicago White Sox (55-49) – Playing .500 ball in July and extending their division lead, the White Sox are also buyers looking for pitching depth to go along with one made trade already this month. They will try and avoid emptying their farm system .
10. Washington Nationals (54-52) – Coming off their best month of the season, the Nationals are buyers looking for help up the middle with one of their more interesting trades coming at the deadline already. Their early return in the Curtis Mead deal looks likely to be a steal .
11. Arizona Diamondbacks (55-51) – Coming off their best stretch of the season in a 10-4 run over their last 14 games, the D-backs are buyers looking for help with their rotation. One nice twist at the deadline for Arizona is that two prospects they acquired in a trade last year are now rotation regulars .
12. Pittsburgh Pirates (54-52) – Looking to make a bigger splash with ownership at the deadline, the Pirates’ needs are obvious with a near-MVP closer to add to their bullpen .
13. Cleveland Guardians (54-53) – The Guardians’ playoff odds took a hit this week following their sweep last week but the return to health of their franchise leader may offset any deal they make at the deadline .

Tier 4: Muddled Minds

14. Minnesota Twins (53-54) – Playing well within a weak division, the Twins have a decision to make at the deadline about whether to buy or sell. They may have more options to do nothing with a sub-.500 record .
15. Detroit Tigers (50-56) – While rumors of a Tigers’ ace have swirled since the season began, a strong July has seen them right back into the playoff conversation .
16. St. Louis Cardinals (53-52) – Coming off their worst month of the season, the Cardinals have a difficult decision to make about whether to stick to their rebuilding plans and hold on to their young assets .
17. Houston Astros (52-55) – Coming off a five-game winning streak, the Astros are right there in the thick of the AL West race to finish third with a chance to be either buyers or sellers. A fifth-place team in the division with a +13 run differential, they may need a big acquisition to finish in the top three .
18. Texas Rangers (53-52) – An unlikely division leader with a disastrous run differential of -25, Texas still has a chance to make the playoffs if their veteran rotation can carry them through the month .
19. San Diego Padres (53-53) – Back to .500 after winning the last series they played but with a losing record against teams holding winning percentages, the Padres are a mystery at the deadline. Do they really belong in the ranks of the contenders? .

Tier 5: Leaning Toward Seller

20. Cincinnati Reds (49-55) – After landing an ace this month in a long-term contract, the Reds are set to hold on to their young assets .
21. Seattle Mariners (52-54) – After losing the last four of five series, the Mariners remain within striking distance in a weak division despite their sub-.500 record .
22. Baltimore Orioles (51-55) – With a winning streak equal to their best of the season, the Orioles temporarily jumped back up the rankings before cooling off once again .
23. Miami Marlins (52-54) – Coming off their easiest month of the year, the Marlins dropped from one of the game’s best teams to looking most likely to sell at the deadline after losing the last four series they played .
24. Kansas City Royals (45-62) – Playing better baseball lately with two series wins, the Royals have complicated any potential sellers’ plans with the return of their available veteran arms .
25. Toronto Blue Jays (48-58) – The defending AL champions are in danger of missing the playoffs for the second year in a row after going 9-19 since early June .

Going Full Rebuild

26. New York Mets (44-62) – Still in the hunt for the worst record in baseball, the Mets have had a strong week’s play that has kept them from bottoming out entirely .
27. San Francisco Giants (44-61) – The Giants are sellers with a marquee bat and one of the game’s best veteran pitchers expected to move before the deadline .
28. Los Angeles Angels (42-64) – Looking to acquire a star at the deadline, the Angels have more than just a few trade chips with a young, controllable shortstop set to hit the market .
29. Colorado Rockies (42-65) – Another team looking to start over, the Rockies’ front office made waves in the past with their aggressiveness at the deadline .
30. Athletics (44-61) – The A’s have been absolutely brutal in their last 23 games (4-19) and sit in last place by a wide margin .
